About The Institution

Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College (Autonomous), widely known as BCREC, was established on 21 August 2000 under the governance of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College Society. The institution was founded in tribute to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a distinguished statesman and one of the principal architects of modern West Bengal.

The college offers undergraduate engineering programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Design, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. It also offers postgraduate programmes including M.Tech, MBA, and MCA.

Several B.Tech programmes, namely CSE, IT, EE, ECE, and ME, have received accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and the institution is also accredited by NAAC, reflecting sustained commitment to quality education and academic excellence.

About Electrical Engineering Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering, founded in 2000, offers both undergraduate (B.Tech in Electrical Engineering) and postgraduate (M.Tech in Power System Engineering) programmes. The department received NBA accreditation in 2008, 2022, and 2025, demonstrating sustained dedication to high academic standards and continuous quality improvement.

Faculty members are actively involved in advanced research spanning Renewable Energy Systems, Smart Grid Technologies, Nonlinear Control and Optimization, Reinforcement Learning, Digital Signal Processing, Analog VLSI Design, Internet of Things, Blockchain applications, and Biomedical Instrumentation. Research contributions are regularly published in reputed international journals including IEEE Transactions, IEEE Access, and leading journals from Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, and others.

During 2024-25, the department reported strong publication output, patent filings, external consultancy assignments, and a significant grant from the Department of Science and Technology. The department also maintains international research collaborations with institutions such as Brno University of Technology, Inonu University, and Politecnico di Bari.

About ECE Department

Academic and Training Model

The Electronics and Communication Engineering department follows the affiliating university curriculum with strong emphasis on core engineering fundamentals and practical implementation. Laboratory work is typically performed in small student groups with close faculty supervision to improve practical learning quality.

Final-year projects are largely industry-oriented, and equal emphasis is placed on seminars, discussions, and technical presentations to improve analytical and communication skills.

Facilities and Tools

The department has specialized facilities including the Advanced Communication Engineering Laboratory and Advanced Microelectronics and VLSI Laboratory. Hardware platforms include Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA boards and Zybo Zynq-7000 ARM/FPGA SoC trainer boards.

Industry-standard software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, Mentor Graphics, Xilinx toolchain, and Vivado Design Suite are available for undergraduate and postgraduate design, simulation, and research activities.
